Our Favourite 3 Walking Trails

Bryce’s Flat, the Blowhole & Breakneck Gorge

The Bryce’s Flat, Blowhole, and Breakneck Gorge walking track is a must-do for all hiking enthusiasts who want to experience a short taste of the 210km Goldfields Track. This experience is perfect for local explorers and offers a wide variety and view of the scenic bushland, flora, and fauna, and the promise of native wildlife encounters.

Starting off in Bryce’s Flat, simply follow the clear and well-positioned signs to the Blowhole across Sailors Creek and up the main track. Stop at the Blowhole, which is a diversion tunnel created in the late 1800s on Sailors Creek, designed to help gold rush era miners expose the gold in the water. It received its name rightfully so, as after heavy rainfall, it appears to shoot water. A narrow track along the Great Dividing Trail leads to Breakneck Gorge. Stay on the walking tracks to avoid mineshafts.

Hanging Rock Trail

Breathtaking waterfalls on one of daylesford walking tracks

Hanging Rock is a breathtaking trail that is full of beauty, intrigue, and historical curiosity. It is about a 2km trek that takes about an hour and a half for moderate to the advanced adventurous hikers. For the adventurous hikers, Hanging Rock can be ascended to the summit some 100m above the iconic farmlands below. Bushranger ‘Mad Dog’ Morgan was said to be a regular visitor of the area, and the location came to the attention of visitors after the Australian novel and movie “Picnic at Hanging Rock.”

Hanging Rock is well-known for its natural granite, caves, and large boulders. On entry, you will find a small free museum that tells the story of Hanging Rock, and facilities in the picnic park include free gas BBQs, shelters, good toilets, and a small playground. There may be a fee to enter the reserve.

Lake Daylesford – the “cant miss it” Daylesford walking tracks

Lake Daylesford is a popular walking trail that is approximately 45 minutes around the iconic Lake Daylesford, just a few minutes from Cara Cottage. Take a break at the boathouse when you are done and tire the kids out for the rest of the day at the park.

The Lake Daylesford walking track is mostly flat with some mild slopes and steps, depending on the journey. Lush green trees surround the path, the running waterfall is located just across the “love lock” bridge, and further along, you will find some of the famous Hepburn springs where you can fill your water bottle and sample the natural mineral springs.
